The Role, Accountability and Performance (RAP) Framework

21CSI works with clients to plan and to implement performance contracting. Like any organization change effort, attitude, determination and planning are more important to success than technology. Consequently, we recommend that clients start with dialogue about these, and think about automated computer applications to support their performance contracting approaches later in their efforts.

Performance contracting can be implemented as part of an overall systematic approach to talent management. WCI's RAP (Role, Accountability and Performance) framework provides a generalized model for such approaches. This one page schematic describes this framework.

Organizational Change

Organizational change is never easy. Often, an incoming change leader will need to take steps to change existing incumbents "mental models of their roles" as part of a major organizational change. This white paper describes the approach taken at "Widget Co." to implement performance contracting as part of a major organizational change initiated by an new leader. Some of the steps described (e.g. the use of a facilitator to prepare personal performance contracts) make sense in major organizational change context but are not needed when simply implementing performance contracting in an on-going organization.

Delivering Results

Attitude change and training are key to successful performance contracting implementations. While working with a client on its performance contracting implementation, we wrote a "handbook" for managers and staff". The client implemented a simple training program to help both develop the "attitudes" which lead to successful performance management.
