DESIGN PRINCIPLES UNDERLYING OUR PUBLICATIONS

Design Principle   Implication or Consequence

One:

Motivated adults are capable of gaining insight into themselves if presented with appropriately constructed tools and written materials.

:

Self descriptive tools and self development materials will be complete and self contained, with everything needed by an individual to have a personal development experience contained within the covers or in the interactive session (e.g. questions, scoring instructions and interpretation material).

Two:

Individuals who use our personal and professional development materials should not have to have a grounding or academic background in psychology, psychometric theory or statistics in order to use them. Our first goal is increased self awareness and personal competence.

Our materials will be written in day-to-day language, not the language used by professional psychologists.

If we include self-insight tools and feedback questionnaires, they will be straight forward to score, and not use advanced statistical techniques which make it difficult to relate personal results back to day-to-day behavior, or require a trained or certified interpreter.

Three:

Individuals who use the our materials must be able to relate what they read to their day-to-day behaviour. They must be able to apply it to make changes to how they interact with others in straight forward ways. They must be able to understand why this will work, if they desire to do so.

Our materials must describe behaviour and behaviour patterns that are observable by others.

All of the ideas needed to understand the construction of the explanatory model that underlies the suggested behavior change must be explained within the covers.

Four

The material must recognize that different people have different ways of gaining clarity on their personal feedback, and jave access to different ways of increasing their day-to-day capabilities.

The materials must must be structured so that people have choices about how to use it. They will be a variety of paths through itl. The personal development suggestions will recognize that different people do different things in order to increase their behavioral competency.
